I finally got around to watching the film A Quiet Place and from an audio point of view, it is one of the most sonically pleasing movies I have watched. When you have a film that has little to no dialogue it does put a big focus on the sound design and every single little detail of the world gets heard. I found a video on Soundworks Collection that explains that this was a hard task to accomplish and that people when they were coming out of the theatre would be more aware of the sounds around themselves in the real world. This is a strange but satisfying feeling you get after watching the film because you are aware of your surroundings more and you appreciate the sounds of the country when you are outside of the city!
Here is the Soundworks Collection video I found that goes a little into the sound of the film.
What I am interested in the most at the moment is the vocalisation of the creatures in the movie! I'm going to be fiddling around with my voice and using DSP to create some strange sounding effects within the next few days! Im planning to keep this blog running as it should be as I do have a tendency to keep random on the side experiments under wraps. This video with Jim Stout shows some of the things you can do with a vocoder to create some horrifying monster noises!
